Frequently Asked Questions

Virtual Range Shooting Simulator

What is the Laser Range Shooting Simulator?

A safe, fun, and cost-effective way to train for recreational, competitive, tactical or professional shooters...of all skill levels. Our state-of-the-art shooting Simulator utilizes advanced military and law-enforcement training grade laser technology for replicating real shooting skills' practice.

Who is it for? - Novices, Beginners & Young People.

The Virtual Range provides a non-threatening environment for beginners to learn about firearms and shooting sports, while enjoying a fun and realistic experience. For those new to shooting, or simply looking for a pure entertainment activity, we provide a comfortable and practical introduction to shooting without any of the anxiety of using live ammunition or shooting an actual firearm for the first time. Our system offers you options based on your own comfort level and experience with weapons. As a brand new shooter you can start with a completely inert replica training pistol, allowing you to get comfortable with proper grip, a stable stance and safe weaspon handling procedures. Next, progress to laser-firing pistols and rifles equipped with gas-driven recoil, for even more realism. Virtual Range is a perfect way to introduce young people to safe firearm handling.

Is it safe?

Yes. The Laser Range guns fire 'shots' of Infra-Red laser light at the Simulator screen and interactive targets. There is NO LIVE ammunition involved, or allowed on the premises at any time.

Small hand-held laser devices can be potentially dangerous if a constant stream of laser light is pointed directly at the eyes of a bystander. However, the SureStrike™ emits a short laser pulse well under eye safety requirements. The SureStrike™ laser cannot be “switched on” in its normal state and therefore cannot beam a constant stream of laser light.

The SureStrike™ is not a risk to the eyes if used in a normal and appropriate manner. The SureStrike™ conforms to or exceeds ANSI Z136.1-2000 safety requirements.

A live round cannot be inserted in the weapon chamber when a properly installed SureStrike™ laser occupies it.

This installation in clients' own weapons includes the UhrSecure system, which uses a Safety Pipe and Safety Nut that secure the SureStrike™ in the weapon.

How much does a Laser Range session cost?

30 mins session: $25*, plus $10 each additional shooter 60 mins session: $50*, plus $10 each additional shooter. 90 mins Private Party: $300 (up to 12 people) *(Optional: Add $10 per session for recoil-enabled M4 - AR 15 rifle with red dot optics)

How many people can take part?

A maximum of 4 people (active participants) per regular booking may take part. (Others are welcome to come and watch, space-permitting). Private Party bookings can accommodate up to 12 participants.

What kind of weapons are used?

We have three options for weapons: 1. Inert training pistols. Modeled on popular Smith & Wessson M&P handguns, these training pistols have no recoil. 2. Recoil-enabled pistols and rifles. These are 1:1 airsoft replicas of real firearms, adapted from airsoft so that instead of firing projectiles they fire Infra-Red laser light 'shots'. They utilize either 'green gas' or CO2 magazines which create realistic 'blow-back' or recoil effects. Currently we have replicas of Colt M4, Glock 17/19, and CZ P09 available. 3. Participants can contact us in advance to request bringing their own weapon in to be fitted with a laser adapter cartridge (if available) so they can use their own familiar gun with the simulator. (Please note that semi automatic weapons will not cycle as usual when fitted with laser adaptors and will have to be manually cycled by slide-racking between shots).

Can I use my own gun with the Simulator?

With prior arrangement and subject to an extra fee, you may bring your own unloaded firearm into the facility to be fitted (if possible) with a laser adapter cartridge, which will enable you to then use your own weapon with the simulator. Please call us for details.

We respectfully request that you do not bring your own firearm onto the premises, without express prior approval from Altus Training.

Live ammunition is strictly prohibited and may not be brought onto premises at any time.

While we fully respect responsible ownership and possession of firearms for personal protection, the presence of live weapons and ammunition in the same facility with training weapons carries the potential for safety issues. We use realistic training firearms in our facility which presents a risk that a real firearm could be mistaken for a training firearm.

Do you offer firearms training?

We will be offering a number of training classes and courses in personal protection in the near future. Stay tuned for details!

- Experienced & Advanced Shooters.

As a more experienced shooter, you can practice utilizing cover, drawing your weapon on the move, and delivering or returning fire in limitless live-action simulated scenarios. We have the ability to set up different firing positions and obstacles, including 'scenery' and 'buildings' to provide cover and concealment to make your experience more realistc and fun. CCW holders can safely practice drawing from concealment or holster, and shooting while moving. - which typically cannot be practiced at a regular range. You can also practice multi-gun: transitioning from rifle/shotgun to sidearm, and you have an unparalleled opportunity to drill target acquisition while moving from station to station. Expereienced shooters even have the opportunity to practice on our Simulator with their own weapon, which we can safely fit with a laser cartridge.

- Competitors and Athletes.

If you like to compete in Biathlon, Targets, USPSA or IDPA, Fast Draw, Trap, or Tactical Competition, we can provide you with a set up to train for your sport by replicating your event with the Simulator. All without the cost of expensive ammunition, or having to travel long distances to a training facility or range. WE can even add physical exercise elements to elevate your heart rate for more realistic and challenging training.

- Law Enforcement, Military, Protection Service Professionals.

You can reinforce your Department training with our Simulator's judgmental and tactical skills-based interactive video training scenarios. Often agencies only have access to this type of training at the Academy, but now you can train on a regular basis, at low cost. Training consistency can be maintained by the use of 1:1 airsoft replicas of your Dept.'s issued weapons, keeping the exact feel of your real weapons.

- CCW carriers.

As a responsible CCW holder, you can practice utilizing cover, drawing your weapon on the move, and delivering or returning fire in limitless live-action simulated scenarios. Experienced shooters even have the opportunity to practice on our Simulator with their own weapon, which we can safely fit with a laser cartridge.

Why use a Shooting Simulator?

More trigger time = better shooting! Whatever your current level, the way to improve, - as with most things, - is skill development practice ! Weather conditions here in Summit County can often drastically restrict trainng opportunities: Fire Bans prevent the discharge of firearms on the outside range during summer months, and winter shooting is limited by the cold and snow! Our Simulator offers the ability to practice regardless of weather, fire bans, or restricted availability of regular shooting ranges.

What happens in a Laser Range session?

On arrival you will be greeted and given an Orientation prior to using the Laser Range, -including Safety Rules, Operation of the laser-enabled training weapons, and how to select your chosen shooting activities from the many options available... Next you will have a short 'warm-up' period, practicing sight picture, alignment, and basic handling skills etc. in the Interactive Target Area... Then you take your skills to the Simulator! Here you can select whether your group wants to shoot in turn as individuals, or challenge each other in head-to-head contests, or group together to control the zombie population, or terrorist threats. The system is entirley flexible depending upon how you wish to use it!
